Lady Mary, Mr. Carson & Me

For the new People special issue on Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, I interviewed Michelle Dockery (the regal Lady Mary) and Jim Carter (Mr. Carson).

Gotta say, it was a surreal joy to have their faces on my Zoom screen and hear their voices. Both were delightful, and Carter had the most amazing stories about his life with fellow UK acting royalty Imelda Staunton and shooting the latest Downton movie in a quaint town outside London where he grew up.

I could’ve happily chatted with him for days. Downton is absolute comfort food and the latest movie didn’t disappoint.

I even squeezed out of Dockery the merest hint that the series might indeed live on beyond this purported last film. Here’s hoping.
