Upcoming Storytelling Workshop

📰 Nearly every day, I read a news story and think: Well, somebody is absolutely going to make that into a _________ (fill in "play," "musical," "movie," "series," "OnlyFans account," etc).

This August, while I’m gratefully in residence at NY's Center for the Arts of Homer, I've been entrusted with leading a workshop that starts with that sort of instinct--and hopefully makes it useful.

"Finding the Story Inside the Story" is a free, interactive workshop exploring how writers turn real-life events into plays, movies, musicals, and other dramatic creatures. We’ll look at recent news stories, pick one, and together build the foundation of an adaptation: choosing characters, defining stakes and structure, and facing the big question every writer eventually has to answer: What is this actually about?

All storytellers welcome. No writing or theatre experience needed. Strong opinions encouraged. 🗣
